Welcome to East Herts YMCA
What We Do
What contribution is the East Herts YMCA currently making to the community?
- It engages 'hard to reach' young people
- It is genuinely concerned for, and can give a voice to, those who are socially excluded. We have the ability to do this via the YMCA organisation as a whole and through the various partnerships we belong to
- It meets very real housing needs in this area. These needs are often complex
- It helps young people to become contributors to the community
- It takes an active part in the East Hertfordshire Local Officers' Partnership Group, the Learning Forum and the Homelessness Forum to increase provider co-operation and avoid duplication
Service Overview
The East Herts YMCA provides self-contained residential accommodation for 27 vulnerable young adults between the ages of 18 and 30 who are need of support. Each resident has an Assured Shorthold Tenancy agreement. There are also two flats with communal facilities for young adults requiring more intensive support.
Staff work alongside residents to develop activities that are stimulating and challenging. Our objective is to enable each young person to move from dependence to independence - and via individual support plans residents are able to identify and address areas of need during their six month to two year stay with us. We have passed both the Supporting People and Matrix quality assurance frameworks.
Other provision includes: an emergency crash-pad facility; careers and educational information and advice; intensive one-to-one personal development programmes.
