Welcome to East Herts YMCA
Volunteering
Could you become a YMCA volunteer?
The YMCA aims to provide everyone - staff, volunteers, board members, young people, clients - with opportunities for personal development.
So volunteering at the YMCA is about more than giving time and sharing skills. It gives you the chance to learn about others, build new friendships and develop new skills and confidence.
And for some it's a chance to explore and express Christian faith in action.
What's the value of volunteering?
There are many reasons why people volunteer.
People want to:
- Contribute something to society
- Make a difference in people's lives
- Enhance their CV and job prospects
- Get training and support
- Make new friends and have fun
- Build self-confidence
- Develop skills and experience
In addition to these, volunteering can open up areas in your life which might lead to a sense of fulfilment and good citizenship.
Giving something back
The YMCA can provide all the opportunities described above. In addition, as a Christian organisation, the YMCA also provides Christians with the opportunity to put into practice what they believe about life and express their faith in action.
Volunteer opportunities are currently available in the following fields:
- Administration
- Board trusteeship
- Ground maintenance
- Providing logistical support for residents' activities - and specifically a residents' 5-a-side football team
- Regular updating of the East Herts YMCA website
